All around the skirt

I find patterns particularly hard to combine, especially animal and camo prints. So what happens is that, generally, I fiddle with the item for a while but in the end I never wear it: I just give up, figuring I lack the skill to mix and match. But when this skirt saw the light after hiding in my inventory for a while, I figured it was worth a shot, considering I didn't even have to adjust the prims. The culprit is Mimikri's Peggy sculpted mini in Olive, which I purchased in The Dressing Room Blue a while ago (meaning it's no longer available). The skirt came with a blouse which was too short, too sheer, and not autumnal enough for the look I had in mind. So, here was a challenge: finding something to wear it with in my out-of-control, out-of-date inventory. In the end I came up with not just one, but two combinations.

The length of the skirt (or rather, the shortness) made boots an immediate must -- any excuse is good for boots. It was just the perfect chance to wear these again since I bought them last spring - J's Western boots. After trying them on the legs still seemed too bare, so I figured I had to find the right tights to go with the skirt. A quick inventory search for "tights" and, bingo, I had bought the whole lot at a place called MCs ages ago, so I was bound to find a colour that matched. In the end I opted for Dark Olive, from the Earth Tone pack. After that came the hardest part, finding a top, which is where I would normally give up. I had already included dark brown and olive green, so I figured camel would be a good option to pick up on the skirt's shades. So, I donned an old favourite, the Julie Sweater from the long gone Last Call. The combo looked nice, but somehow too bland... and then it dawned on me: how about adding a jacket on top, to give it a more layered feel? This bolero is part of the Robot Love outfit by Icing, but can be worn with almost anything, classic to modern. And last, on to accessories... how about something made of wood? Then, it has to be the Heartwood necklace from -back when I bought it,-Earthtones with its matching bracelet. That's it, got it! But... wait... how about a black turtleneck and thicker tights?

For this other, more wintery look, I chose the Eva turtleneck in black, by Pink Outfitters, together with the PixelDolls green knit leggings. To avoid clashes between the sweater prims and the jewellery, I decided to go without any accessories. So, not bad, in the end!

The other stuff:
Hair - Amelia by fri.day (Jealous red); eyes - Miriel in Forest (store no longer existing); skin - Helena 03 by Tuli (TDR special, no longer available); poses (1st pic) Glitterati, (2nd pic) - /GEEZ/

Happy 7th Rezday to Caroline Apollo!

It's jeweler Caroline Apollo's SEVENTH RezDay! Now if prims could talk -- there's SL history for you ;) I know I acquired my first jewelry from there early in my SL career. I've only met Caroline a couple of times, but she has *always* been very kind and pleasant.

In honor of her RezDay I am wearing her new Seasons - Fall Flowers Set, which I purchased at the recent jewelry fair.

To complement the colors in the necklace and earrings I decided on an ICING dress, the Azalea Sunset.

Other items worn:
>TRUTH< Cameron - copper
::Soda:: Custom Skin - Samara Barzane

Pink and punk... with a hint of Asian!

I haven't done a proper "freebie post" for a while, and it's about time. But this one's about freebies of a special kind, meaning you can't just go grab them at the stores - they need some extra work.

First of all, the dress... oh the dress. When Miko Omegamu of *Icing* released Chinoiserie, I was in sighs at its gorgeousness, but then I was a bit disappointed that it would only be available in red - since a flame red dress on my redheadedness would be, I think, redness overload. However, hope sprung in my heart when I saw this newer release, Imperial Blossom, a more casual redux of the first one. The version I'm wearing for the pics is the special edition available through Miko's lucky chair - although, of course, those who are not terribly into waiting for their letter to come up (or into pink) can just hop over to the vendor and buy it, as it can be purchased normally, too.

When I tried it on, however, I knew I was in danger of doing girly or über-cute... and since sometimes I prefer to go the hard way, I decided right away that some black leather would be the ideal way of accessorising pink silk - so I rescued my much-used
ETD Leather Ring Wristband. But... (Recurring dilemma!) What about the shoes? Oh yes! Perfect! Just last month was the Creators Stamp Rally, in which I participated and got a few nice gifts. I hadn't put my rewards to good use yet, among them the *COCO* Ankle Wrap Wedges, so I tried them on and... voilà, just the desired effect!

Continuing with the Asian theme of the dress and of the CSR hunt, I chose a slightly messy bun on my hair, Cassie in Jealous Red from the
Fri.day sale (but - argh - I forgot to add a couple of chopsticks). Tuli had of course included the perfect makeup for this colour combo in the Hope fatpack - it's called Avenue, with a subtle green eyeshadow and glossy pink lips. I can't get enough of these skins. The eyes (in the exact shade of the eyeshadow) are Miriel's Strong Green, with Glamour lashes.

Poses, as per usual, are
Long Awkward Pose's - much to my disappointment, I couldn't make it to the Poop Hunt this year, but I hope those of you who went got bucketloads of shite.

The *ICING* on the Cake!

One result of being unemployed and not able to spend my lindens so freely has the need to explore my inventory for forgotten gems. I saw the notice for the ICING sale and as I was searching for the landmark I came across Passion Flower, which I popped on as I *am* a "Passionate Redhead." So off I went to the sale, and, in my new thrift, only fell for one, Tradewinds, which I had admired for a while. One of the reasons the poses are sideways and the same side is that I wanted to show off the seashells in the Tiny Bird hair :) Also the backs of the dresses are as well done as the fronts. In both dresses Miko Omegamu's skill at shape and texture are evident.
